That tangy, sweet and finger-licking sauce we all know and love that’s even named after the brand has mystified its consumers. What exactly is in Chick-Fil-A sauce, and what makes it so dang good?
Of all the sauces, this one seems to have customers asking for more and more — but what makes it so special and the perfect sauce to pair with Chick-Fil-A’s signature chicken sandwiches, nuggets, tenders and fries? According to Chick-Fil-A, the sauce was invented in the 1980s in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A team member accidentally mixed barbecue and honey mustard recipe together. And boom — Chick-Fil-A sauce became a thing. It’s been a huge hit ever since it hit the retail markets. According to Chick-Fil-A, franchises ordered more than 500 million individual packets of Chick-Fil-A sauce. In the U.S. the southwest region ordered the most than anyone in the nation in 2017.
Just this year, Chick-Fil-A revamped the packaging on its sauces to celebrate all of their unique flavors. They are the same recipe they’ve always been and taste just as good but have a new look to keep customers coming back for more. According to thetakeout.com, even Walmart has gotten on the Chick-Fil-A sauce train. They are reportedly selling a generic version of the sauce called “Restaurant-Style Chicken Dipping Sauce” under the store’s Great Value brand.
What is Chick-Fil-A’s Sauce Made of?
Thetakeout.com reported it tastes almost exactly like Chick-Fil-A sauce. Many people say even making the sauce at home is simple. The exact recipe for Chick-Fil-A’s version isn’t verified, but thetakeout.com believes it’s a mixture of combination of mustard, lemon juice, honey, mayonnaise, plus barbecue sauce.
According to thedailymeal.com, in 2012, the chicken chain revealed via Twitter that their Chick-fil-A sauce is actually a blend of honey mustard, barbecue and ranch sauces.
Customers can take tubs of the sauce home with them. The store offers catering and customers can order just an eight-ounce tub of sauce for about $2 plus tax. Chick-Fil-A describes the sauce on its website as “our classic dipping sauce with notes of honey mustard and a smoky tang.”
However, Chick-Fil-A sauce is not very diet-friendly. Just one package packs 140 calories, 13 grams of fat, 180 milligrams of sodium, six grams of carbs and six grams of sugar. Despite the calories, people will keep eating Chick-Fil-A sauce by the handful. As it’s most popular sauce, it won’t leave the menu anytime soon.
