The highly-anticipated new Samsung Galaxy Fold, announced by Samsung Electronics Feb. 21, features the world’s first 7.3-inch, AMOLED Infinity Flex Display with a 4.2:3 ratio.

The device was debuted to a crowd at the San Francisco Bill Graham Civic Arena Feb. 20 at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked 2019 event. The event unveiled five of Samsung’s newest smartphones, including the Galaxy Fold and three Galaxy S10 models; Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10+.

The Galaxy Fold display has the ability to fold into a compact device and features a cover display. Samsung touts that the new model will bring about a powerful way to “multitask, watch videos, play games and more – bringing life new experiences and possibilities years in the making.”

“Today, Samsung is writing the next chapter in mobile innovation history by changing what’s possible in a smartphone. Galaxy Fold introduces a completely new category that unlocks new capabilities never seen before with our Infinity Flex Display,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “We created Galaxy Fold for those that want to experience what a premium foldable device can do, beyond the limitations of a traditional smartphone.”

Samsung stated that it invented a new polymer display – Infinity Flex Display – that’s about 50 percent thinner than a typical smartphone display. The phone boasts a rear triple camera and front dual camera with wide angle, ultra-wide angle, telephoto, selfie and RGB depth lenses. The five lenses built into the device range from eight to 12 megapixels with F stops as low as 1.5 in the wide-angle feature. This will garner the attention of those who love taking high-quality photos without having to carry around a DSLR body and lens.

The new operating system will feature Android 9.0 operating system. Although it will not have a MIcro SD slot for more storage capability, the device will contain 12 gigabytes of RAM and 512 gigabytes of storage.

The device will launch in LTE and 5G starting April 26 for $1,980, according to CNBC.
