Delta’s newest narrowbody jet, the Airbus A220-100, made its debut Feb. 7, carrying passengers from LaGuardia airport in New York to Dallas/Fort Worth.
The new jet features 109 seats total – 12 first class, 15 Delta Comfort and 82 in the main cabin. Delta’s new A220-100 also has the widest main cabin seats in their fleet at 18.6 inches in width. Each seat houses seat-back screens, from 10.1-13.3 inches wide, and the cabin includes Wi-Fi capability and some of the widest seats for narrowbody aircrafts.
The jet touts a widebody feel on a narrowbody design and enhanced extra-large windows for better views. Customers will not have to try to shove a carry on bag to fit in the overhead bin when traveling on the new A220-100. The aircraft also has the largest stowage capacity for overhead bins in its class.
“The innovation, creativity and remarkable engineering skills that went into the design and production of this aircraft is simply breathtaking,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian in a press release. “The A220 will serve as the cornerstone of our future domestic growth.”
The A220 features some of the best-in-class fuel performance, powered by Pratt & Whitney’s PW1500G engine. Delta believes this will deliver an expected 20 percent improvement in fuel efficiency over similar-sized models.
Delta was the first American operator of the A220-100. The company announced its first delivery of the A220 in October 2018 and ordered an additional 15 A220s – booking a total of 90 aircraft.
“These additional A220 aircraft will continue to strategically enable Delta to refresh our fleet, drive further advances in the customer experience and serve as an excellent investment for our customers, employees and shareowners for Delta into the next decade,” said Gil West, Delta’s Chief Operating Officer in a press release. “We look forward to taking our first A220-300 in 2020 at the Airbus assembly facility in Mobile, Alabama.”
Delta created the mini series, “Best in Class” for others to experience the innovation of the newest aircraft.
